The Reptile village was introduced in 2003 by Mr. Kazibwe who had a great passion for wildlife and therefore built simple pens for the reptiles. The founders of the village state that their main objective was to educate people about reptiles and at the same time have a habitat where they can learn about the many different species that can be found in the country. Reptile village is found on Entebbe Highway, filled with things that the brave love frolicking with. This is one of the most thrilling places to spend a day learning about these creatures that usually stay hidden when they incite danger in most human beings. Most of the reptiles found on the ground are mostly rescued from death and brought to the village to be taken care of.
There are over 20 different species of reptiles on display ranging from cobras, boom slangs, skinks, monitor lizards, tortoises and the most poisonous snake in Africa the Baboon Viper. One enclosure is an open basin, as the species hosted there are non-climbing. Another basin is home for four different species of tortoises. At this village you will be sure to find a number of reptiles indigenous to Uganda such as; snakes, chameleons changing color as they crawl around their home, tortoises, monitor lizards and of course the crocodiles. They are all kept in their respective cages with the crocodile enclosed in a huge pond and like most African countries, anytime snakes or crocodiles are found they are either captured or killed.
Therefore, this village provides a safe haven for these poor creatures.
